General opening hours for high street shops in New Zealand are as follows:
- Monday to Thursday 9.00am - 5.30pm
- Friday 9.00am - 8.00pm
- Saturday 9.00am - 5.00pm or 5.30pm (depending on the location)
- Sunday 9.30am - 4.00pm or 10am-5.00pm (depending on the location)
The malls open extended hours and as a result the shops within malls offer extended hours also. Mall opening hours are usually:
- Monday to Wednesday 9.00am to 6.00pm
- Thursday and Friday 9.00am to 9.00pm
- Saturday 9.00am to 6.00pm
- Sunday 10.00am to 5.30pm
- Public Holidays 9.00am to 6.00pm
Friday night is the traditional late shopping night but this has been extended to Thursday nights also in most of the malls now. At Christmas additional late night shopping days will be available.
